A trope in TV and movie science fiction: The evil, unbeatable robot or other mechanical device is completely, truly, really most sincerely dead only when its lights (usually the eyes, in the case of a robot) go dim and fade to black.

I’d like to see a scene in which our heroes shoot a rampaging killbot to the ground, watch its eye lights go out, deduce that it’s dead, and reach down to haul it away for dismantling — whereupon the bot grabs them with murderous intent. It had turned out its eye lights in order to draw our heroes close enough to grab.

I mean, really: does your car stop running when the headlights aren’t on?
