President Obama’s farewell address was good, I admit — but I’m really looking forward to Donald Trump’s.

Kellyanne Conway’s comment that journalists should pay attention to Donald Trump’s heart rather than his words (thank you, Rachel Haus, for bringing it to my attention) reminds me of an old joke: A wife catches her husband committing adultery, and he denies it, adding, “Who are you going to believe — me or your lying eyes?”

Another bit of yesterday’s comedy that applies today: Mr. Trump’s Cabinet selections remind me of something from Will Rogers. It’s said that Rogers visited a freshly inaugurated president — in some accounts Warren Harding, in others Calvin Coolidge — and asked, “Would you like to hear the latest political jokes?” According to Rogers, the president said, “You don’t have to. I appointed them.”

Since I was no fan of Obama being called “Obummer” and such, I will not refer to Donald Trump as “Fondled Rump,” “Dwindled Stump,” “Coddled Chimp,” “Chump,” “Dump,” “Slump,” “Grump,” “Mugwump,”  or “Cumpump.”

But I may refer to him as “You have GOT to be kidding.”
